This method works for most stitches.
This explanation covers the case of 2/2 ribs. For ribs 1/1, after 1 and 2 repeat 7 and 8.
Knit the 2 sts because these were knit sts
Like the last st was knit st, work as follows: slip the left needle through the front loops of these 2 sts present on the right needle and knit them together with the right needle
Work the next stitch as is, in this case, purl
As the last st was purled, work as follows: slip the left needle through the back loops of these 2 sts present on the right needle and purl them together with the right needle
Work the next stitch as is, in this case, purl
As the last st was purled, work as follows: slip the left needle through the back loops of these 2 sts present on the right needle and purl them together with the right needle
Knit the next stitch as is, in this case, knit
As the last st was purled, work as follows: slip the left needle through the front loops of these 2 sts present on the right needle and knit them together with the right needle
9. Continue like this by doing 7&8 on a knit st and 3&4 on a purl st
